Once upon a time a Philly band called R.A.M.B.O. wrote a song called ‘U-Lock Justice,’ and it went a little bit like this:
for everytime i hear them say
get the fuck out of the way
i will defend my right of way
that heap of steel i’m gonna slay
i’ll thrash you i’ll bash you
i’ll kick in your doors
break out your windows
and scratch your paint
apologize for oil wars
apologize for polluting my air
in some cases cars are ok
but when i’m on the street
you’re all my enemies
If you didn’t grow up taking the train to Philly every weekend to go to punk shows like I did, you might not have heard of this brilliant self defense method. It might sound a little far fetched to you, coffee sipping yuppie reading the internet. But if you’ve ridden bikes in the city long enough you probably know the dangers of road rage. And when you’re getting slapped around by an angry ped or run out of the bike lane by a drunk taxi driver, it helps to have a five-pound piece of metal to wage a little street justice.
